Management Leadership Development Strategies That Can Empower Young Leaders

By Ann Perry

Admittedly, manpower is the most important thing in a company because a company will not be able to run without manpower. Of course, quality manpower would only be produced if the company has a line of high quality manager leaders. These managers would have to employ the right management leadership development strategies to empower the younger potential leaders.

The usual assumption of most people is that managers are immediately leaders because of their position and title. However, the truth of the matter is that there are so many managers who do not know how to lead and empower the ones under them. A leader, on the other hand, knows exactly how to inspire people and make them the best they can be.

One of the core concepts of management leadership would be education and training. This is an extremely important part to take note of because without proper training, the people under the manager will not be able to tell one from two. Managers that are leaders have to know how to create a curriculum for the people under them to follow just like how teachers would in school.

Now, one very important concept of creating a training program is structure. If one would want his or her employees to follow his or her training, he or she has to make the training as comprehensive and as structured as possible. It is also through proper structure that the manager will be able to weed out the leader material from those who are not leader material.

When one creates the training program, some things that he or she will have to emphasize would be teamwork, initiative, and goal setting. These are three things that a leader has and three principles that must be imparted to the next set of leaders. It will then be up to the potential leaders how they are going to use those tools to help them climb up the corporate ladder.

Finally, problem solving is also extremely important when training to be a leader manager. Everyday, one will be setting goals for him or herself and will also be encountering some problems along the way. A leader would shoot straight for his or her goal and try to solve problems as fast as he or she can so that the goal can be met efficiently.

One of the most efficient ways to solve problems would be to first list down the elements of the problem and find out the root cause. From there, one should solve each element of the problem one by one. Once that is done, then he or she should look at the problem holistically and find a way to prevent the problem from happening again in the future.

For those who are leader managers and are in charge of mentoring young potential leaders, here are some tips that can help. Now, some managers may ask why it is important to mentor people under them instead of just letting them follow their job description. Well, if one would really think of the welfare of the company, then it is better to have long lasting and empowered employees who are competent and can carry the company forward.
