How To Choose Gifts For Employees

By Kimberly Turner

As a personal executive or assistant, you might find it manageable doing the ordinary daily tasks. When however it comes to picking the right gifts for employees, it is never a simple decision. The way that you gift will affect productivity and the way other people perceive the company. While the process is hectic, it is important to know how to make the right selection. When you are choosing gifts for employees there are a number of considerations.

Among the first considerations is what your budget it. The employer needs to know what they are supposed to pay for the gifting. In order to make a decision on what will be most suitable, they should consider how they relate with employees. For example, if employees have been there for some time, employers will not mind spending slightly more on them. That is as compared to when the employees are relatively new.

If there are many workers being gifted, you should have a budget set aside which will be used for that purpose. The money that is set aside will then be divided to cater for all the gifts to be bought. Gifts vary in value and pricing. There are those that are very costly. The price determines what you can buy.

Selecting the right gift will involve lots of research and brainstorming. It is important to avoid items which are impractical ans which will only act as clutter. If an employee spends lots of their time taking notes, you might consider getting them a diary planner and pens, all which are personalized. The items picked for gifting should be long-lasting so that the person thinks about the company for a long time to come. When you customize gifts with personalized labels like company name, they will be more valuable.

The gifting should be meaningfully done. You should be able to choose the right place, time and way to do the presentation. That will have a huge impact on whether it is received positively or not. Generally, it is better to send the gift rather than present it in person. That ensures that the employee receives it is a manner that is inconspicuous. That deters any unwanted attention.

You need to decide whether you will be giving the reward in cash or non-cash. The traditional way was to give employees gifts as cash bonuses. When however they are given as specific non-cash rewards, you will find that an employee is likely to choose the non-cash option. An example of such a reward is extra vacation days. You should strive to give a gift in a form that it can last in the mind of the employee. It could be charity work, extra days of paid leave or travel incentives.

While most companies reward individuals, there is the option of rewarding people as teams. When workers are rewarded as groups, it will bring about a more cooperative behavior and better teamwork. Before you gift individual members of teams, you need to think of what impact it would have on the team.

Gifting is generally not a simple decision for employers. Not every gift will have the same impact. You should go for options which will give the biggest impact on employees.
